Memorable Quote 1: Compared with what we ought to be, we are only half awake. We are making use of only a small part of our physical and mental resources. Stating the thing broadly, the human individual thus lives far within his limits. He possesses powers of various sorts which he habitually fails to use. William James (American Psychologist & Philosopher.)

Memorable Quote 2: Success is not external shining in; it's internal radiating out. Frank F. Lunn

A defining moment in my life took place 6 years ago when I sent a one line email at midnight resigning from my Management position.

I had always worked full time (in Personnel, Project Management & Training) and most recently had been seconded to manage a high profile Task Force in North East of England.

However this night it hit me with some force that my priorities were all wrong, that I needed to get some balance back into my life - hence the resignation email!

During my 3 month notice period at work I had to constantly fight the urge to apply for other jobs and struggle very hard to maintain my resolve in the face of people who meant well but were concerned that I was throwing away a good job and salary on a whim.

I have to say however that on the whole I felt a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders and I felt fantastic for having made the decision; and with the benefit of hindsight it was the best decision I ever made.

I finished work at Christmas, so it was when the children went back to school in January that I started to think about my future career. At this point I discovered life coaching and the holistic approach to development appealed to me greatly.

I also realised that what I had most enjoyed about previous jobs was direct contact with people and helping them develop personally and professionally.

I trained and qualified as a life coach and was employed as a trainer/facilitator in leadership and management development on a part time basis until 2003.

I had decided when I left full time employment that I would like to help others not make the same mistake that I made and let their lives get out of balance; and in 2003 I decided to combine my passions for leadership and holistic development to help leaders get back in touch with what’s important to them, and rediscover/harness their enthusiasm for life and work, so that they are self motivated and inspirational leaders who take charge of themselves and their lives, at work and at home.

My leadership development company (in which I naturally work part time) is well established, and the more I work with people in leadership positions the more I am convinced that holistic development (personal and professional development in the context of the whole person and their life) is the way to greater happiness and fulfilment for individuals, and the only way to realise potential and live your “best life.”

It also provides for a more effective leader at work and a greater return on human capital for the companies in which they work.

It’s a complete win/win.
