Author: Claus & Ingrid Dreyer

Some people set unrealistic goals and then fail to achieve them. They do not consider whether they are possess all the necessary skills to accomplish those standards, which they lay for themselves. This creates a sense of failure resulting in lower morale and poorer confidence, thereby affecting the overall working of the individual. People feel discontented in everything, they become restless and aggressive.

However this does not mean that people stop aiming high and do not set any goals. It is necessary to understand that for keeping up with the times, people do need to be ambitious. But they also need to know their own limitations. They need to know their self.

What is this self? Self means your own individuality, your own personality. Knowing your self-means being aware of your qualities, your weaknesses and your strengths. This is self-realization. Self-realization helps in achieving true inner understanding. It acts as a measure for the individual, a map that shows the entire formation of the persons’ mental makeup and helps them control their energies towards their aims and achievements.

For a true knowledge of the self, an individual may take the help of meditation. It simply means deep concentration into the individual’s mind by himself in a quiet and relaxed environment, and focusing on the past and the present with a need to create betterment. This means that one should take a deep insight on all the important events of the life, the external influences which have affected the self and then keeping the goals in mind, start a through comparison. The focus should not be on the feeling that there is a huge gap between the goal and reality, but on the fact that this analysis has given us an opportunity to improve our chances of getting the desirable results. It provides the individual with an opportunity to think positively, by attempting to transform the demerits into merits, problems into solutions. The self-contemplation of the mind also proves to be an excellent de-stressor and healer.

This self-analysis can also be achieved by psychometric tests that include questions, which are helpful in reaching a definite charting of the individuals self. There are various kinds of tests available that provide a pretty accurate analysis. Also a visit to the Psychiatrist may help anyone to get a detailed study of the subconscious mind. That does not indicate that people should become obsessive about their self. People should take care to remain moderate in seeking such help, as the method is only for a general help. The rest depends on the individual himself.

Self-realization can only work if the individual does not use the analysis methods with a bias. Only when the person questions himself in a neutral manner and answers those questions correctly, and then only the method can produce accurate results. This makes the person take a more realistic and reasonable view on life and helps him become calmer and more tolerant.

Self-realization can help in better motivation of an individual towards his aim. One can be more productive and manage things better if one is aware of their limitations. The person learns to perceive things in a more unbiased and impartial manner and is able to keep his emotions in control. Thus to create better self-perception, and boost the overall confidence, a person must undergo self-realization.

This not only helps in bettering the self esteem of the individual, the individual is able to get a more meaningful and practical description of himself, enabling him to better his abilities and achieve improved and advanced results.
