Self-development is the process of learning and improving you. It means taking responsibility for your actions and behavior. This is achieved through a continuous practice of assessment, reflection and action.
You can learn from your past experience and from events that happen around you. In both the cases, you have to analyze and understand the cause-effect relationship of your actions, behavior, reactions and fear. Once you analyze them, a pattern will emerge and you will be able to ascertain why you behaved or acted or reacted in the way you did. This can be achieved only by taking a conscious understanding and realization of your inner-mind. Some practices like meditation help you to delve deep into your mind and to understand its nuances.

One must learn to be positive and optimistic in life. You must not let the negative forces that exist around you to influence your thoughts and actions in anyway. You must avoid these influences from your life. When you do this, you are left with only positive thoughts and this will propel you forward in life. You can achieve new heights.

Motivation can make an individual perform anything in spite of their challenges. It will inspire a physically challenged individual to perform things that he/she thought was impossible. There have been incidents where motivation has driven physically challenged individuals to climb mountains. The Sherpa are people who live in the Himalayan foothills. They help mountaineers in their climb towards Mount Everest. There was a Sherpa who was physically challenged and he had climbed the mountain more than a dozen times. What made him accomplish this feat? It is his self-confidence and his faith that he will be able to do it. This state can be attained through self-development.

Sportsmen who have excelled in their respective fields are those that have dedication, passion and motivation. Their passion helps them get a single-minded devotion towards their goals. They don’t respond to anything else around them. They are not distracted by what others do or think. All this is because they believe in themselves and in their ability to surge forward. They are motivated to accomplish their dream. They dedicate their life in achieving it. When they finally accomplish, their victory tastes like nectar and everything else around them seems insignificant compared to their achievement. They are individuals who have undergone the complete development of self and mind.
