How to improve your first impressions, Self Development for Sales People
Author: Claus & Ingrid Dreyer
First impressions are hardly ever right, however, it still counts and first impressions can mean that you get a sell or you get the door. You will want to take in consideration that your first impression means everything to someone. There are people who are willing to let the first impression go, but there are some people who will find it difficult to let the first impression go, that is why it is so important that you learn how to make the best impression that you can. You will want to also look at the way you see yourself so that you can work on the self image aspect of selling and the first impression.
The first thing that someone is going to look at is the way that you carry yourself and the way that you dress. You will want to dress appropriately. This means that the way that you dress has to be business like and also respectful. You need to make sure that you do wear something that makes you look good and flatters you. If you learn how to make it work with the way that you dress and charm people over, you'll be able to improve the way that you are seen through other people's eyes.
However, you have to understand that you have no clue as to what things are like until you have seen yourself through other people's eyes. The next time you get a comment on the way that you handle a sell or look, you will want to look at it with interest. This means that you will want to look at it objectively. Your co-workers may think that your cologne is horrible, but you may love it. You will want to think about how the way that your cologne affects the sale numbers. You will want to make the sells as high as ever, but you will want to look at yourself as something other than just perfect, but as someone who needs to continuously grow and change.
As for the first impression, you will want to make sure that you approach the person with respect. Shake their hand, say hello and do anything that you can to make a difference in the way that they are seeing you. When you give a person everything but respect, you get nothing! You will find that respect is the key to success. This is why you need to approach the customers with respect and courtesy at all times. This way you will be able to get them to trust your judgment and maybe get them to spend a little bit more than they expected to. As a salesperson the amount of the goods value the more commission that you make. That is why it is very important that you look how to win them over with a good first impression, rather than push them to another sales person.
You can practice the way that you look by giving your first sentence in the mirror and watching your facial expressions and hear the tone in your voice. When you take the time to look at the way that you approach the practice of selling, you'll be able to control and work on the first impression that you give. You want to show them that you have authority and knowledge, but you don't want to seem like a know it all. You will want to seem like you are someone who values the opinions of others and simply just there to help. You need to show respect, eagerness to help, and also work on the verbal and nonverbal messages that you might be sending.
